          Georg Schnéevoigt's Biography

          Finnish conductor and cellist, a close friend of composer Jean Sibelius. He was first cellist of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (until 1902), then he became principal conductor of the Kaim Orchestra (now Munich Philharmonic). His other positions were with the Stockholm Concert Society (1915-1924), the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and from 1930 until his death the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. He was also principal conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (1932-1940).
          In 1907 Schnéevoigt married pianist Sigrid Sundgren (born 17 June 1878); they would often perform together. He died on 28 November 1947 at age 75.
