          Georg Boock's Biography

German administrative official, local politician (SPD / USPD / KPD / SED) and Mayor of Erfurt. During his term of office from 1946 to 1961, the introduction of “Democratic Centralism” coincided with the other parties’ equalization as bloc parties, expropriations without compensation, and other systemic upheavals. Erfurt also experienced strikes on 17 June 1953 and there were other protests. The Soviet Army imposed a state of emergency. In 1961 over 20,000 Erfurt citizens lived in West Germany and West Berlin, having left their city since 1945 for political and economic reasons.
During his term, Boock undertook some innovations such as the establishment of the AWG housing construction, the educational institute in 1953, the medical academy in 1954, the Zoo-park and the 1961 international horticultural exhibition (IGA) of the socialist countries.
He died on 23 June 1961, aged 69.
