Gaylord Perry's Biography
American baseball pitcher, one of the most consistently successful pitchers for his 20-season major league career, winning over 197 games and losing 239 games with an earned run average of 2.99. He won the Cy Young Award in both the American and National Leagues. Only 14 major league pitchers in history have the number of victories as Perry. He also pitched more innings than any Atlanta Braves pitcher.
Perry revealed the details of his life in “Me and the Spitter: An Autobiographical Confession.” In 1958 he was signed by the Giants and followed his older brother Jim to the major leagues. In his early career Perry was a mediocre pitcher, the 11th man on an 11 man pitching staff. He was determined to do better and spent hours practicing.
In 1968 he pitched a no-hitter and led the league in shutouts. He pitched for both leagues in All-Star games. Perry has great stamina and missed only six pitching turns because of injuries in his entire career.
He is married to Blache Perry and the couple have four children. They make their home on a 400 acre farm
