          Gaston Schnegg's Biography

French sculptor and painter who regularly exhibited his artworks at the Society of Friends of the Arts in Bordeaux from 1885 to 1927.
After winning two sculpture prizes in Bordeaux, Gaston Schnegg moved to Paris in 1887 and entered the studio of Alexandre Falguière at the École des beaux-arts, where he joined his older brother Lucien, also a sculptor. Their common workshop became the meeting place for young sculptors — the “bande à Schnegg” — of which Lucien was the driving force. The group included, among others, Antoine Bourdelle, Charles Despiau, Robert Wlérick, Léon-Ernest Drivier, François Pompon, Louis Dejean, Alfred Jean Halou, Charles Malfray, Auguste de Niederhausern, Elisee Cavaillon, Henry Arnold, Jane Poupelet and Yvonne Serruys. After the death of Lucien Schnegg in 1909, the group continued to convene around Gaston.
Gaston Schnegg died on 25 November 1953 in Paris at age 87.
