          Fritz (illustrator) Lang's Biography

          German illustrator, painter and engraver.
          He was the son of the Lutheran journalist and writer Wilhelm Lang (16 July 1832, Tuttlingen – 19 march 1915, Stuttgart) and Marie Blitze. His sister Agnes married the theologian Konrad Hoffmann (1867–1959).
          He went to the Gymnasium without finishing it. Then he studied decorative painting and crafts. From 1894 to 1996, he studied at the Kunstschule Stuttgart under Jacob Grünenwald, Gustav Igler and Albert Käppis. From 1896 till 1899 he studied under the animal painter Victor Weishaupt at the art academy of Karlsruhe.
          In 1900 he settled as a free painter in Stuttgart and became an active member of the in 1902 erectd “Freien Vereinigung württembergischer Künstler”.
          He made woodcuts for “Das Blumenbuch”, “Das Schnauzerbuch”, “Das Vogelbuch”and the “Buch vom Wolf und den 7 Geißlein”.
          In 1928 he travelled to East Africa, and got new impulses which changed his style. His main exhibitions were held 1937, 1957 and 1962 in Stuttgart.
          He died 26 October 1961 in Stuttgart.
