          Fritz Graevenitz's Biography

          German sculptor whose 1935 bronze bust of Adolf Hitler was featured at the 1936 Stuttgart Nazi exhibition “Contemporary Swabian Artworks”. In 1937 Graevenitz was appointed teacher of sculpture at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts and a year later he was appointed director.
          Graevenitz was promoted as an artist by the National Socialists and his works appeared at several German Art Exhibitions at the Munich House of Art, such as a bronze “youth” in 1940 and a zinc “virgin” in 1943.
          Graevenitz published several books on his artworks. He died on 6 June 1959 in Gerlingen at age 67. His wife founded the Fritz von Graevenitz Museum in 1971 . The Fritz von Graevenitz Foundation was founded on 29 April 2002 by the artist’s heirs.
