          Fritz Flato's Biography

          German notary and lawyer, associated since the early 1920s with the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee. In addition, he defended people charged under § 175 and publishers such as Friedrich Radszuweit, the publisher of many lesbian and gay magazines.
          In 1934 Fritz Flato was stripped of his legal licence because of his Jewish descent, whereupon he emigrated to New York in 1935. However, he could not get a foothold there because his German law school was not recognized. In May 1949, Fritz Flato committed suicide in New York City.
