Born in Wiernsheim, Germany, Zundel’s artistic journey began early in life, where he developed a keen eye for detail in portraying working-class individuals. His work included designing posters and creating interiors for workers’ homes, reflecting his deep connection to the labor movement.

Their home in Sillenbuch became a hub for socialist leaders, including Vladimir Lenin, who visited in 1907. However, the couple separated in 1927, after which Zundel married Paula Bosch, the daughter of industrialist Robert Bosch. The couple settled in a farmhouse he designed, known as “Berghof,” where he embraced farming while continuing to paint, now focusing on idealistic and Christian themes.
