          Franz-Josef Wuermeling's Biography

          German politician representing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who served as Federal Minister of Family Affairs (1953-1962). He is known for introducing the ‘Wuermeling Pass,’ the colloquial term for an entitlement identity card that allowed discount fares on trains for large families.
          His books include Acht Jahre Familienpolitik (1961), Familie – Gabe und Aufgabe (1963), Ausserschulische Erziehung in einer freien Welt (1963) and Die Familie fördern: Löst endlich das Wohnungsproblem (1963).
          He died on 7 March 1986 in Münster, Germany, aged 85.
