          France Gall's Biography

French and international popular “yé-yé” singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 at age 17.
She was the daughter of Robert Gall, a songwriter, and Cécile (whose father was Paul Berthier, co-founder of “Les Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois”).
She married singer Michel Berger, and they had two children. They lost their daughter, Pauline, who had cystic fibrosis.
She announced her retirement in 1997 after Pauline’s death and then lived half in France, half in Africa, on N’Gor Island, Senegal. As a stage director, she created the musical “Résiste” with her companion Buck Dawit, in 2015.
A long-term breast cancer survivor, Gall died, aged 70, of an infection after a two-year battle with a cancer of undisclosed primary origin, at the American Hospital of Paris in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 7 January 2018.
