          Finn Mortensen's Biography

          Norwegian composer, critic, and music educationalist. The first public presentation of one of Mortensen’s compositions was the Trio for Strings, Op. 3, which was played at the Young Nordic Music Festival in Oslo in 1950. In April 1954 he had his debut as a composer, along with Øistein Sommerfeldt.
          From 1963 to 1973, he was a music critic at the newspaper Dagbladet, and he was also for many years a correspondent for the distinguished German music magazine Melos. When the Norwegian Concert Institute was established in 1968, he became its first director. He became the country’s first professor of composition when the Norwegian Academy of Music was founded in 1973.
          Mortensen died on 21 May 1983 in Oslo, Norway, aged 61.
