          Fernando Lara Bustamante's Biography

          Costa Rican lawyer and politician. He graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1929. He graduated as a lawyer in 1934. Senior officer of the Secretariat of Public Education in 1937 under the management of Leon Cortes Castro. In 1940 he was professor in the departments of Administrative Law and History of Law. He was president of the Bar Association from 1954 to 1955. In 1966 he participated in the negotiations to resolve the conflict between El Salvador and Honduras in 1967 to attend the Inter-American Conferences in Punta del Este, Uruguay. In 1969 he headed the Section for Human Rights in San José Conference, which bore fruit in the Pact of San José and created the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
          He died on 16 December 1984.
