          Ferdinand Coutan's Biography

          French physician and archaeologist who became a doctor of medicine in Paris in 1881. Established at the Tréport, he settled in Rouen before 1900. A member of the Academy of Rouen from 1894, he became president in 1900. He was also president of the Friends of Monuments Rouennais in 1911, and also a member of the Departmental Commission of Antiquities of the Seine-Inferior from 1891 to 1925.
          He was the son of Édouard, a pharmacist and Céline Harvier. He married on 26 November 1883 at Formerie with Marie Cuel (1862-1941), with whom he had at least five children.
          He died on 24 February 1952 in Rouen, aged 99.
