          Eugène Gabriel Mansuelle's Biography

French music hall (French: café-concert) artist whose popularity stemmed from his unusual physique and joviality. He becomes accustomed to playing a trumpet solo at the end of his singing, so much so that the audience would cry out loudly, “Ugly! the trumpet!”, until he performed his piece before returning to the wings. In 1908, he attacked the trade unionist Emile Pataud who had interrupted one of his concerts: Pataud was condemned to pay damages to Mansuelle.
Mansuelle died of a peritonitis in Paris on 28 July 1938.
