          Eugène Chevandier de Valdrome's Biography

French politician and industrialist, whose business interests included forestry and glassworks, but also forges, coal mines and sawmills, as he was a very large landowner whose interests extended to Germany.
He became one of the principal leaders of the third party under the Second Empire, and was appointed Minister of the Interior by Émile Ollivier in January 1870. The fall of the Empire later that year precipitated his withdrawal from political life, which enabled him to disassociate himself from a conflict which undermined his family and industrial alliances and his land interests in Prussia.
Eugène Chevandier de Valdrome wrote treatises on chemistry and silviculture.
          He died on 1 December 1878, aged 68, in Cirey-sur-Vezouze, aged 68.
