          Eugen Greiß's Biography

          German architect and building contractor who worked on palatial residential and commercial buildings in the style of the Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance. In addition, he planned and built apartment blocks and industrial plants. Other buildings were built in Aachen (commercial building on Theater Square), Alsfeld (Hall building of the German Kaiser), Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and Kassel.
          Eugen Greiß was the son of the Frankfurt architectural painter Gustav Greiß (1825-1896), his younger brother was the architect Otto Greiß (1876-1945). From 1874 to 1877 he studied architecture at the Stuttgart Polytechnic with Konrad Dollinger, Christian Friedrich von Leins and Alexander von Tritschler. Greiß then returned to Frankfurt, where he became independent in 1883 as an architect and contractor. His construction company was considered one of the most important in the city. He was instrumental in the development of the station district.
          He died in Frankfurt am Main on 13 March 1925, aged 69. His son Friedrich Viktor (1873-1916) was also an architect.
