American noted family, the wife of Irving “Kup” Kupcinet (b.7/31/1912), a columnist and TV personality, and the mother of Karyn, whose murdered body was found 11/30/1963, Hollywood.
Born Esther Joan Solomon, the eldest of three children, she was raised on the Near North Side, Chicago. She attended Northwestern University, and it was on campus in 1935 that she met an alumnus named Irv Kupcinet, then a sports reporter for the Chicago Times. They were married in 1938. The couple had two children. Son Jerry, born in 1944, is a successful television producer. Daughter Karyn, nicknamed “Cookie,” was born in 1941.
After Karyn was killed on November 30, 1963, Esther spent a decade consulting investigators and psychics trying to resolve the tragic mystery of her daughters murder.
She died on June 16, 2001 at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, age 85.
