          Erwin Theodor Rupp's Biography

          German pharmacist whose scientific work was very diverse in analytical studies of drugs, in particular the improvement and introduction of new analytical methods. With Loose, he introduced the titrimetric determination of alkaloid bases with methyl red as an indicator, thus doing preparatory work for the DAB 6. Rupp always endeavoured to make the determination methods for the testing of drugs so simple that they could be performed quickly in each laboratory. He also invented an easy-to-use utility scale, the “Ruppsche Scale”. He died on 10 April 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau, aged 84.
