          Ernst Wilhelm Nay's Biography

          German painter and graphic designer of classical modernism, considered one of the most important painters of German post-war art. In 1955, Nay published his manifesto “From the Gestalt value of color”. Around this time his work found international resonance. The first solo exhibition of his work in the USA was shown in 1955, followed one year later by a solo exhibition in the German pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Ernst Wilhelm Nay died on 8 April 1968 in Cologne, aged 65, of heart failure.
