Ernst Lautz's Biography
German Nazi lawyer, a senior advocate in the German Reich, who was sentenced in the legal process after the war to ten years imprisonment.
Lautz, who joined the NSDAP (Nazi Party) in May 1933, became a prosecutor at the People’s Court from 1 July 1939. He took part in the meeting of the highest lawyers of the Reich on 23 and 24 April 1941 in Berlin, in which Viktor Brack and Werner Heyde informed about the “destruction of unworthy life” in the gas chambers. He sat in the trial against participants of the assassination of 20 July 1944 as a representative of the indictment. On 30 January 1945, he and Roland Freisler appealed to the German justice system to affirm allegiance to the “Führer”.
Lautz was sentenced on 14 December 1947 in the Nuremberg lawyer trial to ten years in prison because he was involved in a criminal manner in the implementation of the Polish and Jewish criminal law ordinance, which was written by Franz Schlegelberger. On 1 February 1951, he was released prematurely from custody in the war criminal prison Landsberg (along with Schlegelberger).
He died on 22 January 1977 in Lübeck, aged 89.
