          Ernst Gaber's Biography

          German civil engineer known for the so-called “Gaber Tower” which was built on the grounds of the University of Karlsruhe at the end of the 1930s. The largest dynamic dynamometer in the world was installed at a maximum load of 5,000 t.
          He was the son of the cabinetmaker Adam Gaber. He married Erna Ottilie Killinger (born 12 April 1889), daughter of Emil Killinger, secret government councillor. During his studies, Gaber became a member of the Tulla district of Karlsruhe. After completing his doctorate on the subject of the construction and calculation of arched bridges and their scaffolding, he accepted a call to the University of Karlsruhe in 1921. Here he took over the construction of a test room for carrying out experimental investigations. This test room laid the foundation for the Experimental Institute for Steel, Wood and Stone, which celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2011.
          He died in Heidelberg on 25 October 1952, aged 71.
