Norwegian (later American) editor and publisher. In 1929 he emigrated together with his family to the US, and he became a US citizen in 1937. In 1946 he joined the American-Scandinavian Foundation, a private organisaion that worked to advance culture and science relations between the Nordic countries and the USA.
1951-1978 Friis was editor of the quarterly Scandinavian Review. He was editor and publisher of The Scandinavian-American Bulletin 1966-1998, editor of the Norwegian Trade Bulletin 1983-1996, and from 1983 edited the book series The Library of Nordic Literature. 1965-1994 he was a member of the publication department of the Norgweian-American Historical Association. He translated some 25 books, both fiction and non-fiction.
Friis died on 5 April 1999 in New Jersey. He was 86.
