          Erich Rothe's Biography

          German mathematician working in the field of analysis who wrote the book, Introduction to Various Aspects of Degree Theory in Banach Spaces (1986). The Rothe method for the treatment of partial differential equations is named after him.
          Erich Rothe wrote more than 50 mathematical works. His students included Jane Cronin Scanlon and George J. Minty.
          He died on 19 February 1988, aged 92.
