Elias Plavnik's Biography
Norwegian Jewish store clerk and victim of the Holocaust. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Lithuania.
In the the four volume work “Våre Falne [Our Fallen] 1939-1945,” commissioned by the Norwegian government in 1945 to commemorate those who had perished during the war, Plavnik’s entry is in Volume 3, p. 663.
Plavnik avoided getting apprehended during the first bout of arrests of Jews in October 1942, but in order to prevent hostage taking he turned himself in and was subsequently deported as part of the Holocaust on 26 November to Germany where he was gassed to death in Auschwitz.
