          Duchess of Aumale Marie-Caroline's Biography

          Princess of Bourbon-Two Sicilies by birth and a princess of the House of Orléans through her marriage to Prince Henry of Orléans, Duke of Aumale. Maria Carolina was the daughter of Prince Leopold of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Prince of Salerno and his wife (and niece) Archduchess Maria Clementina of Austria, daughter of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor.
          Maria Carolina married Prince Henry, Duke of Aumale, fifth and second youngest son of Louis-Philippe of France and his wife Maria Amalia of the Two Sicilies on 25 November 1844 in Naples. Maria Carolina and Henry had seven children, of whom only four survived chilbirth.
          Maria Carolina remained inconsolable over the death of her eldest son, Louis, and died in exile at Twickenham, England, on 6 December 1869, aged 47, from infectious tuberculosis.
