          Dick Savitt's Biography

          American tennis player who was champion of both the Australian and Wimbledon Men’s Singles in 1951, prompting the New York Times to declare him world No. 1 at age 24. He retired the following year.
          Savitt is enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame, the USTA Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame, the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, and the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
          Following his competitive tennis career, Savitt entered the oil business in Louisiana. He then worked for Lehman Brothers on Wall Street, and in 1985 joined Schroders.
          Dick Savitt died on 6 January 2023 at age 95 in Manhattan, New York.
