          American homicide suspect, accused of killing seven-year-old Danielle van Dam, born (9/22/1994). The child was missing on 2/01/2002 from her home two doors away from Westerfield and drops of blood were found in his van that match her DNA.
          Westerfield has spent most of his life in the San Diego area. He is described as bright, inventive and gentle. The self-employed design engineer, whose name is on three US patents, is the oldest of three children, all born in San Diego county. His mother lives in Claremont, as
          does his sister. His father and younger brother are deceased.
          He married in 1973 at age 21, lived in Del Mar and worked as a draftsman. That marriage ended six years later. Two months after divorce was final, he married again and they had two children. They divorced in 1996. He was charged with DUI on 3/02/1996, it netted him five years probation and a Mothers against Drunk Drivers course. He moved into his present residence in 1997.
          Danielle Van Dam was born September 22, 1994 in Texas. This is from her mother’s testimony on Court TV. The state was on Court TV’s web page. No city mentioned. She was taken sometime between 10:30 PM Fri Feb 1, 2002 and 7:00 AM Sat. Feb 2, 2002 from her house in Sabre Springs, CA, about 20 miles from San Diego.
          Westerfield was found guilty of kidnapping and murder on 8/21/2002, 11:20 AM, San Diego. He could face the death penalty.
