American federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Lewis was nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 17 May 1956 to a seat vacated by Orie Leon Phillips. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on 4 June 1956, and received his commission on 5 June 1956. He served as chief judge from 1970 to 1977. He assumed senior status on 3 December 1977. Lewis served in that capacity until his death on 28 September 1983 in Salt Lake City.
