          David Coe's Biography

American country-western singer. A bearded white male, Coe is a flamboyant, outrageous country star as evidenced by his hit single, “Take This Job and Shove It.” He spent most of his youth in various reform schools and prisons, building up his rap sheet along with his repertory of country songs. On a stint out of jail in 1967, he tried out singing as a career and went to Nashville as a blues artist. With a record contract, he switched to country, writing most of his own material. His LP in 1972 assured his success and he topped the charts a decade later with “The Ride.”
