          Dante Lavelli's Biography

          American football player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1975. Lavelli played with the Cleveland Browns from 1946 to 1956, and during his career, made All-Pro five times and played in five Pro Bowls. He was the top AAFC receiver as rookie, scored winning TD in title game, 1946. He caught 11 passes in 1950 NFL championship: All-AAFC, 1946-1947: All-NFL, 1951, 1953: Caught 386 passes for 6,488 yards, 62 TDs: Had record 24 catches in six NFL title games .
          Raised in Hudson, Ohio, after graduating from Hudson High School, he entered college where he played in three collegiate games, but he left college to serve in the U.S. Infantry. In 1946, he became a member of the Browns. Nicknamed “Glue Fingers,” he caught the winning touchdown during the Brown’s first championship season in 1946 and was named top AAFC receiver. Lavelli retired from pro football in 1956 and is the owner of a furniture store in Cleveland, Ohio.
