          Daniel Gloria's Biography

French painter and mosaic artist whose work evolved over time from landscapes of the Lyon region painted in a naturalistic style to mosaics of a more abstract nature.
In 1947, he experienced a great artistic upheaval. He met Paul Régny and Andrée Le Coultre who introduced him to the group of Lyon artists oriented towards abstraction and guided by Albert Gleizes. He joined them at the conferences of the Minotaur Academy founded by René-Maria Burlet. He created more synthetic and daring works. He no longer used classical perspective and the traditional representation of volume and preferred the juxtaposition of flat areas of pure and arbitrary colours.
That same year, 1947, he discovered the work of Albert Gleizes in an exhibition dedicated to him in Lyon. This discovery was fundamental in the evolution of his painting because it confirmed his move in that direction. Thus, a few months later, he created abstract paintings, and from 1950, he was considered a disciple of Gleizes because he fully mastered his artistic theories. However, he quickly diverged from and created his personal twist on Gleizes’ work.
From the 1960s, he discovered the technique of mosaic which breathed new life into his artistic evolution. His mosaics are the culmination of his work, combining his subjects (nature, sacred art and abstraction), his style, his taste for nature, his search for the painting-object and finally, his attraction to craftsmanship.

Daniel Gloria died on 22 October 1989 at age 81 in Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or, France.
