          Count of Erbach-Schönberg Gustav Ernst's Biography

          French colonel, Prussian Generalmajor (in the titularrang) and count of Erbach-Schönberg.
          His brother was the ruling count and Austrian general Karl Eugen of Erbach-Schönberg.
          He became a captain of France in 1758. In the Seven Years’ War he fought against the Prussians on their side. In 1768 he became colonel in the infantry regiment Royal Deux Ponts and knight of the Order Ordre du Mérite militaire. In the following years he worked with the Prussians and was able to recruit numerous recruits. On 3 November 1803 he received the thanks of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III and the title of Prussian Generalmajor. His son Maximilian also received a patent and was appointed a (titular) Seconde lieutenant. In 1807 he received the Order of the Red Eagle.
          He died on 13 February 1812 in Zwingenberg on the Bergstraße.
