Count of Erbach-Fürstenau Christian Karl's Biography

Count of Erbach-Fürstenau, Lord of Breuberg, and later a Prussian Generalmajor.
On 10 February 1769, Christian was appointed a Dutch Lieutenant in the regiment of the Prince of Nassau-Usingen for twelve years. From 12 March 1784 (after the surprising death of his older brother Friedrich August), he became a co-governing Count, and on 16 January 1794 (after the death of his uncle, Ludwig II Friedrich Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau). On 2 September 1784 he became captain in the regiment of the Prince of Hesse-Darmstadt. He had repeatedly been recruited for the Prussian army, so he changed to Prussian service on 27 January 1795, becoming colonel of cavalry and titular officer of the army. He received the Red Eagle Order on 31 March 1796 and was promoted to Generalmajor on 28 May 1797. He died on 10th May 1803 at Fürstenau Castle.
