He became interested in telepathy when he watched a (nearly) blindfolded actor that could see things. The actor was a deceiver, as he was not that blindfolded. But soon thereafter, Heilijgers encountered a lost youth friend that had went to the Waffen SS and probably had died in the Eastern front. The next telepathic appearance that occurred to him was his deceased brother. It seemed that death people could contact him.
In 1951, at age 30, he started to work as a psychic medium. He was contacted by family members who were looking for missed persons. He seldom asked money for his work. He worked together with the para-psychologist Johan Neu, the director of the Institute for applied parapsychology in Utrecht.
In 1976 he published with JF Kennis the book “Mijn dubbele leven, uit het leven van een paragnost” (My double life).
He died 1 October 1992 in Amersfoort.
