          Christian Champy's Biography

          French doctor and politician, appointed a knight (1937) and then an officer (1950) of the Legion of Honour.
          In 1927 he became professor of histology at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris. Nine years later he was elected a member of the Academy of Medicine and in 1954 (elected on 16 March 1953), the Institute welcomed him to the Zoology and Anatomy Section of the Academy of Sciences. In 1950 he was appointed rector of the University of Hanoi.
          In his political career he was general councillor of the canton of Xertigny from 1922 to 1942 and from 1944 to 1945. In the 1920s he was a left-wing, republican-socialist, but moved to the right in the early 1930s. He was a “left-wing Republican” candidate against radical socialist Marc Rucart in the 1932 legislative elections and then a “republican of national unity” candidate in the cantons of 1934. During the Occupation, he was appointed to the departmental council of the Vosges from 1942 to 1944.
          He died in Paris on 29 April 1962, aged 77.
