          Charles Bigham's Biography

          English diplomat. He was 2nd Viscount Mersey. He survived the sinking of the passenger ship SS Persia in 1915.
          Charles Clive Bigham was the son of John Charles Bigham, 1st Viscount Mersey and Georgina Sarah Rogers. He was educated at Eton and RMC Sandhurst. He married Mary Gertrude Seymour, daughter of Horace Alfred Damer Seymour and Elizabeth Mary Romilly, on 1 June 1904. They had four children.
          He served as a diplomat at Peking, and in the Military Intelligence Dept. War Office 1901–04. He was Secretary to the Royal Commissioner 1905–52, Brigade Major Brigade of Guards 1914, and Lieutenant-Colonel Grenadier Gds, Provost Marshal Dardanel Serv 1896. He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) London.
          He was Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1901. He was made a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919. He was Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1946.
          Charles Clive Bigham, 2nd Viscount Mersey died on 20 November 1956 at age 84.
