Cecil Fielder's Biography
American baseball player: first baseman for the Anaheim Angels. Fielder was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals on 6/07/1982 after being selected in the secondary phase of the free-agent draft. Only one year later he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays organization, who then immediately sent him to the minor leagues; he played for teams in Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina over a span of two years. In 1989, the Blue Jays sold Fielder’s contract to a team in Japan where he played for only one season.
Fielder is a superior player who has earned many records and has been the recipient of many awards over the course of his career. In 1990, “The Sporting News” named him the American League Player of the Year. That same year, as well as in 1991 and 1993, Fielder was named to the All Star Game. He currently holds the records for most times hitting three or more consecutive home runs in a game, the most consecutive years leading the league in runs batted in, and the single-season record for most games with three home runs. In 1996, while a member of the New York Yankees, he helped to lead the team to a World Series victory.
