          Carter L. Burgess's Biography

          American soldier, business executive, and diplomat. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute. He served in World War II, as an assistant to Dwight D. Eisenhower. From 24 September 1954 to 22 January 1957, he was Assistant Secretary of Defense (Manpower and Personnel). From January 1957 to January 1958, he was president of Trans World Airlines. In 1958, he was president of American Machine and Foundry. In 1968, he was appointed ambassador to Argentina. He was appointed to the President’s Council on Youth Fitness. Burgess died on 18 August 2002, aged 87.
