          Carlos Graef Fernández's Biography

          Mexican physicist and mathematician, noted as a founding member of the Mexican Mathematical Society in 1943 and the Mexican Physical Society in 1951. He helped to establish the Tonantzintla Observatory in the Mexican state of Puebla and he later directed it. He received the National Prize for Arts and Sciences in 1970.
          He was a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and completed a doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1940.
          Carlos Graef Fernández died on 13 January 1988 at age 76 in Mexico City.
