          Carlos Dogny's Biography

          Peruvian businessman and sportsman who established the surf in Peru and founded the Waikiki Club of Miraflores. Son of Colonel Auguste Edouard Lussan Dogny and Mary Magdalene Larco Herrera. He was nephew of Victor and Rafael Larco Herrera philanthropists and cousin archaeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle and singer Granda Chabuca. Like its cousin, Rafael Larco, moved to Cornell University in New York, playing for the university football team. Then he entered the School of Business of Columbia University. In 1934, at age 25, his love of polo led to a tournament in Hawaii, where he visited the Outrigger Canoe Club and met Duke Kahanamoku who introduced him surfing. He returned to New York and the start of World War II made it back to Hawaii. In 1937, he returned to Peru bringing the first surfboard to Latin America, introducing surfing in Lima. In December 1942, with Origgi Camagli Carlos Enrique Prado Heudebert, César Barrios Canevaro, Hugo Parks Gallagher and others, she founded the Green Coast in Miraflores, Club Waikiki, getting its name from Waikiki, Honolulu. The club became the main center of the Peruvian surf, performing at various world championships there. In 1959, he founded, in Biarritz, a second Waikiki, this being the first French surf club. He was also known for his style of life, which led him to record movies in Hollywood, where he had some romances, and turn the world 39 times. He was also director of the Commercial Bank of Peru, Grales Insurance Company and Celanese rayon and Peru, becoming among the 30 richest people of Peru.
          He died in March 1997.
