          Carl von Weinberg's Biography

German businessman, entrepreneur and art collector, and the brother of chemist and industrialist Arthur von Weinberg.
In 1898 he married May (born Ethel Mary Villers Forbes from the House of the Irish Earls of Granard) and built the Villa Waldfried in the English country house style. This huge property comprised around 100 rooms. It provided space for the couple’s significant art collection of over 700 items.
After the seizure of power by the National Socialists (Nazis) in 1933, the Weinberg brothers were persecuted because of their Jewish origin. Carl von Weinberg was forced to give up his positions in business.
In November 1938 he had to sell his villa Waldfried together with his important art collection for a fraction of its value.
On 14 March 1943, he died near Florence, six days before his brother Arthur died in Theresienstadt concentration camp.
