          Carl Heinrich Pfänder's Biography

          German portrait painter and expatriate revolutionary who worked closely with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in London. From April 1848, Pfänder headed the London Communist League together with Heinrich Bauer and Johann Georg Eccarius. On 25 September 1849, together with Marx and others, Pfänder signed the call for support to German refugees, which was published in various newspapers. For this purpose, Marx, Engels, Pfänder and others also founded the Social Democratic Support Committee.
          In addition to his political activism, he worked as a miniature and decorative painter. Carl Pfänder married and had six children. He died of tuberculosis on 11 March 1876 at age 57 in London.
