          Bruce Scofield's Biography

          American astrologer, lecturer and author. Bruce has written seven books and numerous articles on astrology, several scientific papers and also text for astrological software. He studied geology and history at Rutgers (BA 1974), social science at Montclair University (MA 1980) and geoscience at the University of Massachusetts (Ph.D. 2010). In 2001 he began to teach astrology at Kepler College and geoscience and evolution at the University of Massachusetts where he worked with evolutionist Lynn Margulis. He has been closely involved with the NCGR education program from its inception in 1979, serving as Education Director 1998-2002 and NCGR-PAA president since 2012.
          His first astrology book, “The Timing Of Events: Electional Astrology,” was written in 1980 and published by Astrolabe four years later. In early 1989 Bruce produced the first psychological delineations for the 20 day-signs in Mesoamerican astrology in his book “Day-Signs: Native American Astrology From Ancient Mexico” self-published in 1991 by One Reed Publications. His book “The Circuitry of the Self” describing a developmental model structured by planetary cycles was published in 2000.
          He dropped out of college in 1967 to play music and explore consciousness but returned in 1972. From 1966 to 1989, Bruce played in NJ-based rock and roll bands including The Ruins, Golgotha, and the Pseudo-Realists. A self-produced solo album (Old Seeds Bootleg) was recorded in 1974. Until an accident in 2008, Bruce was a serious hiker and peak-bagger who wrote seven guide/travel books on hiking and skiing in the mountains and natural areas of the Northeast.
          Bruce was the first born with two younger sisters. He married Joanne in 1976 with whom he has a son Michael born in 1987. They divorced in 1993. He partnered and collaborated with Valerie between 1993-2005 and remarried in 2013 to Nancy.
