Serbian politician who served as the president of Serbia from 2004 to 2012. Tadi? was a member of the Democratic Party, one of the main opposition parties to Milosevic, since its establishment in 1990. After the downfall of Miloševi?, he was appointed in the government as the Minister of Telecommunications of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and would later serve as the first Minister of Defence of Serbia and Montenegro before being elected as the president in 2004.
The Tadi?s are descendants of the Serb clan of Piva, in the region of Old Herzegovina, Montenegro. The family’s Slava (Patron Saint) is Saint John the Baptist. His parents, father Ljubomir, a philosopher and a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and mother Nevenka, a psychologist, frequently relocated between various cities. They moved to Sarajevo from Paris, where they pursued their doctoral studies, only a few days prior to his birth. Tadi? and his family moved to Belgrade when he was three years old, and his father got a job at the newspaper Liberation.
He was previously married to journalist Veselinka Zastavnikovi? from 1980 to 1996, but they divorced, having had no children. Tadi? later married Tatjana Rodi?, with whom he has two daughters. The couple separated in 2019.
