          Bill Wall's Biography

          American systems engineer and chess player best known as a chess book author, chess journalist, and chess researcher in the United States.
          A physics and electrical engineering graduate, he was an US Air Force Sergeant from 1970 to 1978 (aircraft crew chief) and officer from 1979 to 1995. In the years 1985-1991 he was also a security engineer to the NASA Numerical Aerodynamics Simulation (NAS) Division at Ames Research Center. He finished his career with the US Air Force with the rank of major, and since 1995 has worked as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) and senior scientist for the L3Harris Corporation, based in Melbourne, Florida.
          As arbiter of the United States Chess Federation, Bill Wall has led numerous chess tournaments in the United States. He was also first secretary and then president of the “North Carolina Chess Association” (1976-1980), president of the “Ohio Chess Association” (1980-1981), “Chess Club” (1982-1985) the “Palo Alto Chess Club” (1986-1991) and the “Melbourne Chess Club” (1997-2002). In the eighties he was secretary of the Chess Journalists of America.
          Bill Wall has published 35 chess books. Those of the “500 Miniatures” series (16 titles), each dedicated to a specific opening, are particularly well known. He has also published a book on Science Oddities and a book on History Oddities.
          He has written over 1,000 chess articles for various US newspapers and magazines, and contributed biographical and historical material to the Chessgames.com website, chess.com website and other chess websites.
