          Bertrand Tavernier's Biography

          French director, screenwriter, actor and producer. He won the BAFTA for best film in a language other than English in 1990 for Life and Nothing But and a total of four César Awards.
          The son of noted poet-journalist Rene Tavernier, Bertrand started out as a law student for two years. His passion of cinema brought him back to the theater, writing film reviews. Following his co-founding of a cinema club, he entered the industry as a publicist with collaboration on a number of books.
          Directing a few short films from 1963, he collaborated on a number of scripts with a first feature film in 1974. A director of grand style action, intimacy and dynamic visual style, Tavernier went on to make over 25 films, winning the French top award, “Le Prix Louis Delluc.”
          Tavernier was married to screenwriter Claudine (Colo) O’Hagen from 1965 to 1980. They have two children. Their son, Nils Tavernier (born 1 September 1965), works as both a director and actor. Their daughter, Tiffany Tavernier (born in 1967), is a novelist, screenwriter and assistant director. Bertrand Tavernier died on 25 March 2021 at age 79 in Sainte-Maxime, France.
