          Auguste Trecul's Biography

          French botanist.
          Researcher at the National Museum of Natural History and the Department of Agriculture, he was sent, in 1848, on a scientific mission to the United States to study the starchy roots used to feed the Indians. He ran as the center of the country, the Rocky Mountains in Texas and Mexico. He returned to France in 1850. He wrote many articles in the Proceedings of the Academy of Sciences and in the Annals of Natural Sciences. His work led him to maintain an extensive correspondence with Louis Pasteur, between 1866 and 1873. He received the Legion of Honor in 1867.
          The botanical genus Treculia is named in his honor.
          He died 15 October 1896.
