          Arthur Bopp's Biography

German army Major General (Württemberg) in World War I, who commanded operations in Persia.
He attended the Prussian main cadet school in Groß-Lichterfelde. On 19 April 1880, he joined the Uhlan Regiment “King Wilhelm I” (2nd Württembergisches) No. 20 as a second lieutenant. In 1888 he was promoted to Oberleutnant, in 1895 to Rittmeister and in 1902 to Major.
During the First World War, Bopp was initially commander of the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 78 and later of the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 30. Goltz took over command of the 1st Army in Constantinople. Since October 1915, Goltz had also been in command of the 6th Ottoman army to coordinate Turkish and German operations in Persia.
After the total failure of German operations in Persia, Bopp became commander of the 52nd Württemberg Landwehr Infantry Brigade in 1918, which was used to support the White Army in the struggles against the Bolsheviks in Ukraine in the wake of the Russian Civil War. After the withdrawal of the Austro-Hungarian and the majority of the German troops, the hetmanat could no longer hold; it was replaced by the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. The Bolsheviks took Kiev again in the wake of the Russian Civil War.
On 8 November 1918, Bopp retired from the army and moved to his castle in Mühlhausen, where he died on 30 October 1928 at age 67.
