Arnold Lippschütz's Biography
German-American screenwriter and copywriter, the brother of film art director Herbert Lippschitz. The Jewish brothers fled from the National Socialist (Nazi) regime in 1933. Both brothers initially found work in Portugal, where they worked with another exile, the director Max Nosseck. In the Netherlands, Lippschütz wrote the screenplay for Nosseck’s spy drama De big van het Regiment. He then went to France, where he worked for Nosseck on the Buster-Keaton comedy Le roi des Champs-Elysées, and also wrote screenplays for other exiled directors such as Nikolaus Farkas, Max Ophüls and Richard Oswald.
In December 1938 Arnold Lippschütz, who used a number of pseudonyms during his career, moved to the USA and henceforth changed his name to Arnold Phillips. He made his debut in Hollywood in 1941 with the screenplay for Nosseck’s B-film Gambling Daughters.
Arnold Lippschütz died on 19 August 1952 in Los Angeles at age 51.
