          Armand Lurville's Biography

          French stage and film actor, who appeared in twenty-two French silent films released from 1909 (including many short films), the last of which was La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc (The Passion of Joan of Arc) by Carl Theodor Dreyer, released in 1928, with Renée Falconetti in the title role.
          Lurville then appeared in thirty-five talkie films from 1930 to 1948, including Pasteur by Sacha Guitry (1935, with the director in the title role), Marcel Carné’s Hôtel du Nord (1938, with Arletty, Louis Jouvet, Annabella and Jean -Pierre Aumont), and Un revenant de Christian-Jaque (1946, with Louis Jouvet and Gaby Morlay). He returned to the screen with a small role in René Clément’s Gervaise (with Maria Schell, François Perier and Suzy Delair), released in September 1956, the year following his death which occurred in Paris on 26 September 1955 during shooting of the film.
          In the theatre, he played alongside Jules Berry, André Lefaur, Jacques Louvigny, Elvire Popesco and Françoise Rosay. He had notable roles in La Dame aux camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils, presented at the Théâtre des Célestins (Lyon) in 1940, with Edwige Feuillère and Pierre Richard-Willm; and in the musical La Dame en décolleté, with music by Maurice Yvain, performed at the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens in 1923, with Dranem and Jean Gabin.
